The five New Patriotic Party members in the Tain constituency of the Brong Ahafo region, including the party's parliamentary candidate who were arrested over disturbances in the ongoing registration exercise have been granted police enquiry bail.
They were picked up on suspicion of masterminding a clash between NPP and National Democratic Congress supporters in which one person was reportedly stabbed in the neck.
The NPP protested the continuous detention of their members beyond the stipulated 48 hours.
Speaking to Joy News, the Brong Ahafo regional police crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Eric Amoako said the five were granted bail to allow thorough investigations into the matter.
“We charge people when we complete our investigations and we have evidence to support specific charges against them. In this particular case it is still under investigations,” he told Joy FM Correspondent Kuuku Abban.
Asked why they have been granted a bail, he said: “Nothing. We think they should go on bail. Investigations continue."
Chief Superintendent Eric Amoako also dismissed suggestions that the five were released for political reasons.
According to Kuuku Abban some national and regional NPP executives besieged the Tain constituency to show solidarity with the arrested colleagues.
