The New Patriotic Party has dismissed reports that Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign is being funded by his family members allegedly involved in drug deals.
The flagbearer of the NPP has had unproven drug charges thrown at him by his opponents for some time now.
A publication in the AfricaWatch magazine’s September edition has however re-ignited the debate.
It alleges that some of the bankrollers of Nana Addo include a cousin, one Nana Poku, who has served jail term in Germany for money laundering.
But the NPP’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says the claims are untrue, stressing they will not in any way hurt his chances at winning the 2012 polls.
“I can tell you on all authority that this Nana Poku is not the financier of our party; is not the bankroller of our party; that we do not have any single individual anywhere who can claim that he is a financier of this party,” he emphasized.
Sir John said the vicious hate campaign launched by the NDC against the NPP flag-bearer in 2008 was rejected by Ghanaians and they will reject it again in 2012.
