NPP Presidential aspirants face the possibility of an outright disqualification or ban from contesting any party position if their supporters violate the code of conduct of the party.
Party executives are determined to halt the proliferation of splinter groups who support individual candidates within the party and whose conduct are deemed to be putting the name of the party into disrepute.
The Get Alan K elected (GAKE), Students Network for Akufo-Addo etc have all been accused of launching a campaign of insults against opponents and the party is prepared to fight the trend.
The party says aspirants will pay dearly if they fail to rein in their supporters.
"We will visit the sins of the sons onto the fathers," Second Deputy Chairman Sammy Crabbe said in an interview with Joy News' Afreh-Nuamah.
"Some of these people are related to them. They know them. They act for and on their behalf.
"They [candidates] won't say the [bad] things but somebody else will say.
"We have jurisdiction of the party and we can sanction," he warned.
That position is attracting strong reactions from some of the aspirants. Spokesperson for Alan Kyeremanten, Nana Ohene Ntow says the rule must be applied fairly.
"I think this is a very important issue," he said.
While he believes similar rules have existed in the past, he prayed the rules would be applied fairly.
He would rather the party targets official agents of the candidates for sanctions in the event of any of violations rather than the blanket threat of sanctions to groups who directly or indirectly suppport candidates.
Press Secretary to Nana Akufo Addo, Eugene Arhin says the penalty of disqualification or outright ban is entirely welcome.
