The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will continue to hold in high esteem the ideology and values of the Danquah-Busia tradition that gives priority to democracy, human rights protection and rule of law, Mr Peter Mac-Manu, National Chairman of the party has said.
He said the party's leadership would foster unity and adopt internal democracy and reconciliation as part of the strategy to win the 2008 general election.
Mr Mac-Manu was addressing the Western Regional Executive Committee meeting of the party in Takoradi on Friday, as part of activities marking the 15th anniversary celebration of the party in the Region on the theme: "Our Roots, Our Strength, Peace Unity and Reconciliation".
He urged polling station agents, foot soldiers and party executives to be vigilant at all polling station to ensure fairness during the counting of votes.
Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, said party members should make honest assessment of the government's achievements and make them known to the public.
He advised legislators and district chief executives to visit the communities regularly to proclaim the good works of the NPP administration to the people.
The Regional Minister said the government was on course in the programme to improve the road network in the region to enhance eco-tourism and other sectors of the economy.
Nana Owusu Ankomah, Regional Chairman, said the party must work hard to retain power to enable it to continue with its programmes and policies to enhance the lives of the people.
He urged NPP faithful to embark on membership drive and advised them not to hesitate to woo disillusioned members of other political parties into their fold, saying devoted NPP members should procure identity cards.
