The Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, says he is confident the new crop of elected New Patriotic Party executives can ‘break the eight’.
According to him, the majority of elected officials are persons who have previously served on the Executive Council in various portfolios and thus have the requisite experience to carry the party forward smoothly.
He noted that their experience will especially come in handy during the 2024 elections when it will be necessary to emulate some of the tactics used in the two previous elections that brought and maintained the NPP in power.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he said, “Yes, pretty much so. The list of people who emerged, don’t forget, are not entirely new. We have Rita Asobayire, we have Nana B, we have Kate Gyamfua etc. In fact, the Youth Organiser that emerged was the deputy to the then Youth Organiser so about 5 people have been on this team before and were part of the victory of 2016 and again 2020.
“So these are people who have been part of the success, who have been part of the team. The Chairman elected, Stephen Nti, is not entirely new. Don’t forget he’s been the Vice Chairman of our party before and so then he come on board with some experience having served at that level before.
“And so for me, you have about 6 people who have been directly involved at the forefront of our winning two successive elections. That should not be anything too difficult for us.”
Concerning the new officials, he noted that the fresh eyes they bring to the table would prove beneficial in fine-tuning the strategies of the party to achieve its aim come 2024.
“Of course there are new people who come on board with other aspects of what we want to do and so by and large I think that yes we are good to go, the reflection of this election or the outcome is positive,” he said.
Mr. Korsah, noted that even though some level of regional balance was achieved in the constitution of the executives, he was hopeful that regions that did not get any representation among the elected officials would receive appointments.
This he said would give the party a national outlook.
“If you look at the balance order that has been said, what I don’t see there is Western North, Western Region and Greater Accra. We have the opportunity of various appointments and that should be able to satisfy these missing regions. So on the whole, we’re going to have every region represented and I believe it will be good for our march towards 2024,” he said.
