The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has commended the Ghana Police Service for arresting the parents of the suspect driver responsible for the death of two 12-year-olds at East Legon in a car accident.
The suspect, believed to be a minor, rammed a Jaguar into an Acura vehicle resulting in a fatal accident over the weekend.
"The National Road Safety Authority is backing the police and we are strongly behind them in this investigation procedure," the NSRA boss told Joy FM.
A statement from the police notes that two other individuals involved in the accident have been treated and discharged, while the 16-year-old driver, Elrad Salifu Amoako, is still receiving treatment in hospital.
The parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody assisting the investigation.
Acting Director General of the NRSA, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, believes the police’s actions will serve as a deterrent to those who drive recklessly.
"These two deaths must be accounted for by somebody. And it is through investigations that we can know who should be liable and what we can do in this circumstance," he said.
