Some residents of Nzema Land in the Western Region will take to the streets on Monday in protest against what they claim to be an unfair treatment meted out to Dr. Sipa Yankey, resigned Health Minister by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.Alfred Mensah, spokesperson of the Nzema Youth for Western Development said CHRAJ’s decision to suspend its inquiry into the bribery allegations levelled against Dr. Yankey by a British construction firm Mabey and Johnson is an affront to the people of Nzema, whose development have been retarded by the resignation of Dr Yankey-a native of Nzema. The anti-corruption body suspended investigations into the matter after five other accused persons challenged its jurisdiction and are seeking an order at the High Court to restrain the Commissioner, Emile Short from presiding over the sittings because of prejudicial comments he allegedly made to the media.Lawyers of Sipa Yankey are vehemently kicking against CHRAJ’s decision and have subsequently filed a suit at the court to compel CHRAJ to hear his case. The lawyers contend their client has a right to be heard; the same way the five other accused persons have the right to prefer that another institution of state other than CHRAJ rather hear or investigate the allegations.Sipa Yankey has always maintained his innocence, insisting the monies he collected between the periods -1993 to 2000 were payments for consultancy services he rendered the British firm.Whilst CHRAJ is bracing itself for a defence at the law court, it may well have to deal with the anomic reaction by the Nzema residents who insist that Sipa Yankey’s continued stay out of office constitutes a scar on their development agenda.Alfred Mensah told Citi News on Friday, they are unhappy with the way CHRAJ is handling the issue and will organise a massive demonstration on Monday to register their displeasure. He said they will petition CHRAJ and later the Speaker of Parliament to address the issue.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyomnnline.com/Ghana
