The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) last year spent a total of 1.7 billion cedis on a number of development projects under the Community-Based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP).The projects included the rehabilitation of a seven-unit block of classrooms at Kwabrafoso, a suburb of Obuasi, the rehabilitation of market sheds at Bogobri and the construction of 23 boreholes.
Mr Joe Boampong, the Municipal Chief Executive, who announced these at an assembly meeting at Obuasi named the training of 25 youth in animal rearing, batik, tie and dye and screen printing as the other projects.
He said under the Community Water and Sanitation Programme (CWSP), 55 boreholes would be provided in the municipality.
Mr Boampong said the Assembly had also submitted bid evaluation report to the regional office of CWSP for approval of four institutional latrines.
The beneficiary communities would be Pomposo, Adaase and Binsere.
On education, the Municipal Chief Executive said a total of 737.5 million cedis had been expended on the construction of canteens and platforms for water tanks in five communities piloting the School Feeding Programme.
He said the government had provided two Jumbo-typed water tanks and other materials for the programme, which had taken off in two of the five communities namely Jimiso-Kakraba and Mampamhwe.
Mr Boampong added that 99 million cedis had also been transferred to the assembly for the implementation of the programme in the two communities.GNA
