Celebrated gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy is due to celebrate her 5th anniversary in gospel music this December.
She revealed in an interview with Myjoyonline.com that, the anniversary celebrations will climax at the Action Chapel on the Spintex Road on the December 27 with almost all well-known gospel musicians in Ghana including Kwaku Gyasi, Christina Love, O.J., Moses OK in attendance.
More importantly, she will be releasing her third album to coincide with the celebration. She released a promo CD of the album; a five-track piece, with the album’s title track ‘Wobeye Kese’ on Sunday and already, it has started enjoying massive air plays both locally and internationally.
Ohemaa Mercy told Myjoyonline.com that the release of the promo CD is part of the preparations for her 5th Anniversary celebration in the gospel scene.
Although she has been singing way back in her secondary school days (Ghana Secondary School) some 20 years ago, she only went commercial only five years ago.
She has two albums, ‘Adamfo papa’ released in 2005 and ‘Edin Jesus’ released in 2007 to her credit and she describes her third album as being different from what she has done so far.
“This album is too much. It is extremely different. The kind of messages and power behind it is too much. It is going to do a lot for people,” she said.
Her third album has songs like; ‘Wobeye Kese’, ‘Se Obi nim Nyame adwin’, ‘Aseda’, ‘Give Thanks’, ‘The Reason’, ‘Am Free’ and ‘Jesus on my side’.
She attributes her success to prayer, reading the Bible, God’s grace and also the type of message her songs carry; “The type of message I sing with. I look at what is going on in the country and what people are going through.”
She said despite her success and fame, she also has gone through a lot. “It wasn’t easy for me.” And of course, she has a price to pay for her new fame as cannot easily go to the market to shop and buy foodstuffs without one admirer or another identifying her and trying to engage her in a chat, even if for a moment.
To show appreciation to her music fans abroad, she is planning an American and European tour in March next year and hopes to complete that by June. She also plans to tour all regional capitals in Ghana after her international tour.
Prior to her December 27 anniversary celebrations, Ohemaa Mercy said she will be doing a cash donation to the SOS Village in Tema on Boxing Day.
This will not be the first time she will be donating to charity. She and her husband have adopted 10 needy school children at the Methodist JSS and St Peters Anglican School all in Koforidua where they happen to be teachers, taking care of their tuition.
Ohemaa Mercy; a mother, teacher and musician plans to further her education to obtain a Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition.
