After almost a decade of fierce chieftaincy litigation between the Okyehene and the chief of Kyebi-Afiesa which led to the latter's destoolment, a ritual has been performed at the Oforipanin fie in Kyebi to reinstate him.
The Afiesahene, Otafirigya Agyeman Kumaning II, was accused of engaging in conducts that contravene the values and traditions of Okyeman.
However, after a careful study of the matter, the Okyeman State Council and its King,Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, have backed down on their earlier decision and reinstated the 60 year old auditor.
Kyebi town was thrown into a state of celebration following news of the Afiesahene's reinstatement as residents and well-wishers joined family members to march through the principal streets of the town amid drumming and dancing.
The elated Otafirigya Agyeman Kumaning II, addressing a gathering of chiefs and elders of Afiesa, was full of praise to "His Royal Majesty", Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
‘’I want to laud the Okyehene for exhibiting his fatherly love by hearing me out. It isn’t any leader who will act as Osagyefo. I can only assure him and my people of my commitment and adherence to the traditional norms and customs of Okyeman’’, he stated.
He also pledged his support to the Okyehene’s resolve to fighting illegal mining in the area.
Okyeman is a traditional area in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Kyebi is the capital of the East Akim Municipal District of the region.
