Olympique Marseille's sporting director Jose Anigo has hit hard at the Black Stars technical bench for snubbing midfielder Andre Ayew ahead of the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
“I do not understand why the technical team did not allow him to join again,” Anigo told the club's official website. “We released Ayew two days before the Saturday deadline.”
“This is not good because Ayew is a fantastic player and has always given his best for Ghana in any tournament he plays.
“We have him back and he will be useful to us as we want to maintain our lead in the French Ligue 1,” he continued.
Ayew had picked up a hamstring injury while training with his club last week.
The situation saw the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele miss the Saturday deadline to join the Black Stars camp in the UAE to be assessed by Ghana’s medical team.
Ayew again failed to meet a two-day extension to arrive in Abu Dhabi on Monday leading to coach Kwesi Appiah’s decision to leave him out of the Ghana team for the Nations Cup in South Africa.
