The Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Professor (Emeritus) Oti Boateng has underscored the need to industrialize the Eastern Region to make it vibrant and attract investors.
According to him, the region abounds in natural resources, adding the location of natural tourism sites exists and must be given the necessary attention.
''Many jobs would be created to avert the rural-urban migration if we focus on the abundance of the natural resources at our disposal'', he stated.
Daasebre Oti Boateng said this when the Regional Minister, Mr. Julius Debrah called on him at his palace in Koforidua.
He said the region’s population which was about 11 percent of the total national population has reduced to 10.7 percent due to the intense urban migration according to the 2010 population Census.
He said it is important to create jobs in the region in the area of large scale citrus and fruits production to avert the rural-urban migration of people in search for greener pasture.
Daasebre Oti Boateng however congratulated Mr. Debrah for his new appointment as the Regional Minister and asked him to stay focused on the welfare of the region.
He called for metropolitan status for some of the municipalities in the region, citing the New Juaben as an example.
He promised the minister to tirelessly support him to rebrand to region to attract investors and to achieve his dream.
“If I can do it for the whole United States, why can’t I do it for the region”, he said.
According to Me Julius Debrah, it is a high time Ghanaians venture into small and medium scale industry to better their lot.
“Apart from the provision of social amenities such as hospitals, schools, potable drinking water, electricity, roads among others that are expected from the government, there are other things that could be done as a people to make life worth living for all and to development the region", he said.
Mr. Debrah promised to work in harmony with all stakeholders including the traditional and religious bodies.
He appealed to chiefs and people of the Eastern Region to see his relation with them beyond politics and come on board to chart a path to development of the region.
The Minister also called on the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Suleman Amdani and some Zongo Chiefs and community members.
