Eastern Regional Minister Kwadwo Affram-Asiedu has observed that no country could develop where the media is gagged.
He said it was in this vein that the media in the country had been liberated so that people could freely speak and write their mind.
Mr Afram-Asiedu was speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-week workshop on online journalism for selected 40 senior information officers of the Information Service Department and public relation officers of some departments at Koforidua on Friday.
He said the course was very important at a time when the country was establishing community information centres in all districts.
Mr Affram-Asiedu urged the participants to put into practice the positive experiences to enhance the democratic process by helping to reduce ignorance and misinformation from the society.
A representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Mr Fred H. K. Ampeah, said his organization was supporting the Ministry of Information and National Orientation to enhance the capacity of Information Officers in the use of Information Communication Technology.
In a welcoming address, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Mr Albert Ampon, urged the participants to use the knowledge gained to enhance their performance and help the people at the grassroots to participate in national discussions.
