Fifteen radio stations will broadcast only local and African music during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, the SABC, South Africa's state owned broadcaster has announced.
This means that Ghanaian musicians like Samini, VIP, Sarkodie, Ayigbe Edem, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Friction, Kojo Antwi and Yaa Pono could have their songs played all over South Africa during the tournament as the Black Stars will represent the country.
The corporation's public broadcasting service division's 15 stations would play 85 percent local South African music, while 15 percent would be dedicated to music from around the African continent, spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said in a statement.
They would do so from May 1 to the end of July.
SABC group CEO Solly Mokoetle said: "[W]e have taken this decision to play only African music during this period, in order to further promote our home-grown music and music from our African counterparts.
"We must remember that during this time, we will be having a variety of foreign guests on our soil... it is important that they are exposed to our culture musically and otherwise."
"By having the split in the music of mostly South African and African continental music, the public broadcaster wants to show that this event is not only for South Africans, but it is for all Africans to enjoy and celebrate."
Three commercial radio stations would continue playing a mix of local and international music.
