Over six thousand buildings including schools have been destroyed by rainstorms this year in the Upper East Region. That is according to officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation. Nine districts and municipalities were said to have worse affected by the rainstorm, Joy News’ Upper East Region correspondent Joseph Osei reported. High tension poles were also said to have been destroyed by the rains, disrupting electricity supplies in the process, In a presentation to Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo, officials of NADMO said close to three million Ghana cedis will be required to rehabilitate the over a hundred schools affected. The minister who paid a courtesy call on some schools in the region, advised student and heads of second cycle institutions to take the issue of afforestation very seriously. Source Joy News/Ghana
