The fact that many New Patriotic Party(NPP) operatives from President Kufuor down to his Ministers, Deputy Ministers to District Chief Executives, Regional Ministers and common party Executives have suddenly become filthily rich in a mere seven and a half years since they have been in government can no longer be denied.
Authentic documents in the possession of the Ghana Palaver attest abundantly to the unimpeachable fact that the Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) Stanley Adjiri Blankson and Mr. Yaw Barima the former Minister of Works and Housing and Eastern Regional Minister have truly joined the club of the “Nouveau Riche” the truly new rich.
Mr. Adjiri Blankson, the Accra Metropolitan boss has just bought a plush mansion at an exclusive Cantonments reservation which conservative estimates by seasoned property valuers have put at not less than 10 billion cedis.
The mansion which is in the vicinity of the new multi-billion dollar United States Embassy in Accra and close to the residence of the French Ambassador in the Cantonments area, is fully stocked with some of the best hand crafted furnishings and state-of-the-art equipments one could imagine.
A partial list of the contents of the Accra Mayor's new multi-billion cedi mansion include but not limited to the following: A massage chair, back room and front room drinking bars, a 60inch plasma televison, a jaccuzi bathtub with television attached, steam showers, a three door stainless steel fridge, custom designed and fitted kitchen complete with 5burner gas cookers, custom made kitchen sink, dish washers, stainless steel microwave ovens and food processors; bedside fridges with ice maker devices, 50inch plasma television in the bedroom, home theatre with four(4) speakers, assorted gold jewelry for both men and women, and large assorted chinaware among many others.
Mr. Yaw Barima on the other hand has made enough money in government and has decided to become a “Big Time” businessman. He has just taken over a whole Gold Mine at Osino in the Eastern Region, worth billions of cedis.
He has purchase mining equipment and gold refininery worth US$300,000 from an Australian mining equipment firm, Swords Group of Companies, of 13 Sydney Road, Mudgee NSW 2850 Australia, of which he has made a straight down payment of US$50,000 with the remaining US$250,000 to be paid within one year.
The question on the lips of many Ghanaians is; how did these operatives of the NPP acquire their new wealth in such a short period of just seven and a half years in government ? A good number of members of the public the “Ghana Palaver” spoke to on the issue could only attribute “ fortunes” of these 'gentlemen' to corruption.
“This revelation can only give credence to the perception that President Kufuor and members of his NPP government are corrupt” said Kwesi Asiamah, who told the Palaver that he could hardly meet his financial obligations at the end of the month and yet ministers and other operatives of the government could afford such expenditures.
As December draws near, The Ghana Palaver wonders what the outcome of the elections would be. Haven't Ghanaians suffered enough to want to boot this corrupt NPP government out?
