Information reaching Joy News has confirmed that Parliament will pass the Intestate Succession Bill this week contrary to fears that bill might not be passed before the house rises this month. Last week Friday, two gender rights groups, African Women Lawyers Association and LAWA-Ghana organised a news conference during which they expressed their disappointment about the delay in the passage of the bill. Principal Assistant Clerk to Parliament and clerk to the Constitutional legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee working on the bill, Ebenezer Ahumaha Djietror has however told Joy News the bill is a priority. He added that the bill will be the first item on Parliament’s agenda this week. The bill when passed into law will give direction as to how to distribute self-acquired property of a man who dies without leaving instructions as to how this should be done.
