Special aide to the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyepong says Paul Afoko is still the National Chairman of the party.
According to David Opoku Ansah, the meeting held to by some members of the party to suspend the National Chairman was illegal because it was against the party’s constitution.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Mr Ansah said “the constitution of the party still recognises him as national chairman and any member of our party who believes in the constitution will still recognize Paul Afoko as the National Chairman”.
In a response to whether it meant Kwabena Agyepong did not recognize Freddie Blay as the acting National Chairman, he said “Freddie Blay is the first vice chair of our party that I know”.
The spokesperson for the NPP General Secretary also questioned the process leading to the suspension of Mr Paul Afoko as chairman of the party.
“The meeting could have waited. It was important that for a major decision like suspending the National Chairman we would have waited for the General Secretary, the flagbearer, his running mate and other leading figures of the party to be present before the meeting took place”.
He said Kwabena Agyapong has filed an official complaint to the police over the damage caused his car at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday.
The General Secretary stepped out from a steering committee meeting after he received a writ challenging the decision by the party's National Executive Council to suspend the embattled Chairman Paul Afoko only to find his car had been vandalised.
He was heckled and booed as he rushed to his car to avoid further confrontations from the party's security, the invincible force

The rear-screen of Mr Agyapong’s Toyota V8 land cruiser vehicle was shattered after an unknown person hit it with a stone.
The opposition party in a statement condemned the action and promised to fix the cracked screen.
But in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, special aide to Mr Agyapong, David Opoku Ansah says the issue is a purely criminal one.
“It is welcoming news that the party condemns it and wants to conduct an investigation but we have already reported the incident to the police. This is clearly a criminal matter, when such things happen you need to report to the police and we have done that”.
Mr Opoku Ansah said the General Secretary is however not moved by these destructions, “he believes that he has the core mandate to serve the party and see these things as an occupational hazard…he is not perturbed at all”.
Meanwhile, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper has cast doubts on the extent of damage caused the General Secretary’s vehicle.
According to Mr Baako, who spoke to Joy News’ Felix Akoyam – who was at the party’s headquarters- when the incident occurred, the General Secretary’s vehicle was not as badly damaged as pictures circulating on social media portrayed.
“I saw contrasting pictures of the incident so I called Felix Akoyam, a Joy Fm reporter who said when Kwabena Agyapong’s car was being driven from the place he didn’t see the crack because it was not visible to him.
“Not that the crack wasn’t there, he was talking about visibility and so he found it strange and surprising when subsequently he saw pictures of the rear screen completely gone”, he continued.
Mr Baako believes due to these contrasting reports surrounding the issue, the police have to intensively and professionally investigate the matter.
“I am not in the position to impugn the integrity of Kwabena Agyapong but I think the best thing to do is for the police to investigate the matter. There are two pictures, the one that has the crack and the one that shows the completely damaged screen, there were also eyewitnesses. The police must put all these things together and do a good work”, he said.
