The Chiefs and people of the Paga Traditional Area in Upper East Region, on Tuesday commended government for creating the Kassena-Nankana West District with its capital at Paga, to facilitate the development of the area.
They said the step indicated government's commitment to the decentralization process and its readiness to ensure a balanced and accelerated national development.
These were contained in a press statement signed by Pe Charles Awampaga II, Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area, Andrews A. Kubaje, president of the Paga Development Association, Alhaji Adam Karim and Mr. Albert Sadungu, both assembly members for the area.
The statement appealed to the people from the Eastern and Western parts of the area, protesting against the location of the district capital at Paga, to do away with whatever reservation they had about the structure of the assembly and rather contribute to the development of the area.
It stated that the claim by some people from the Eastern and Western parts of the area that the district capital was closer to the border was unjustifiable.
The statement cited that Bawku, Aflao, Dormaa Ahenkro, Tumu and Gwolu were all less than a kilometer to the boarder yet they were made district capitals.
It also said Paga by its central location could be accessible to people in all parts of the new district.
The statement said "A road from Kasugu could easily link up with Mirigu in the East and a road from Kajelo could also link up with Kayoro in the West without necessarily passing through another district."
