Nana Akufo-Addo’s lawyer in the 2012 presidential election petition, Philip Addison’s hope of entering parliament has been dashed at the NPP Korle Klottey parliamentary primary.

The experienced lawyer who aimed to join frontline politics polled only 22 votes out of the total 440 valid votes cast on Sunday. Nii Adjei Tawiah could only manage 19 votes. Six ballots were rejected.

Resounding victory for his main contender, Nii Noi Nortey who obtained 393 votes was predictable after Philip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah boycotted the election when voting started.

Aside claiming that the process was fraught with some irregularities, the two had insisted that the election be held next week, August 8 after a contradictory dates emanated from the party headquarters.

The primary recorded some chaotic and disturbing scenes which sprung the police onto their feet to effect some arrests and bring proceedings under control.

Philip Addison had asserted that the whole process was “overcooked” to favour one candidate.

Prior to Sunday's election, there were unsuccessful attempts to injunct the primary and also disqualify the eventual winner, Nii Nortey a former constituency chairman of Korle Klottey.

Going into the election, the real estate developer told Joy News’ there was no justification for an election initially billed for June 13 to be postponed.

“I don’t see anything wrong with what the general secretary said....because if you are an aspirant from the very first time you picked a form to contest in this election, you knew the elections were coming off on June 13^th. That means you should be ready by June 13^th. Any other issue that dragged the election should not affect your campaign,” he remarked.

In a related development, Okaikoi South Constituency delegates have overwhelmingly elected incumbent Ahmed Arthur to lead them in the 2016 general elections.

This comes after Mr. Arthur’s main opponent, Vicky Bright yesterday withdrew from the race accusing him of forging certificates.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the NPP in the Greater Accra Region have expressed satisfaction with how the polls were conducted. Speaking to JOY NEWS, Deputy General Secretary Adam Sabo urged disappointed aspirants to move on.
