New Patriotic Party parliamentary aspirant for Korle Klottey, Philip Addison, is pushing for the party to disqualify his main contender, Nii Noi Nortey.

The party on Wednesday announced its intention to conduct polls in some eight constituencies after some aspirants had been cleared by the national appeals committee to run the elections.

There is however an application for injunction on the elections at the Korle Clottey constituency following a writ by six party supporters. The plaintiffs want the court to, among others, declare Nii Noi Nortey unfit to contest the crucial polls because they claim he presented a fake certificate to the vetting committee of the party.

‘’I do not even think that it is now an allegation because it is a matter that the university has confirmed. Therefore, I do not understand why there is so much fuss and backwards and forwards on this matter. The fact remains that, this certificate was presented to the party and the fact remains that it has been established that it is a forged document,’’ Mr Addison told JoyNews’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah.

In a bid to buttress his argument, the lead lawyer for three NPP leaders - Nana Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia - who brought an petition in 2013 to the Supreme Court said, ‘’If you look at the forms that we filled (nomination forms), it refers to an undertaken that should be taken by all applicants, vouching for the truth of information and the documents submitted and it states clearly there that any false statement could result in disqualification.’’

The renowned lawyer did not stop there. He questioned those who may ask why this matter is emerging at this time, when Nii Noi Nortey has once served as constituency chairman.

“Is it a suggestion that now that it has been discovered it should not be raised? Because he became chairman on the basis of fraud? The first time he brought it nobody saw through it. He became chairman because of the fraud he perpetrated on the people that he is a graduate of the university of Ghana?

Philip Addison had some advice for the party on this matter.

“It’s the law and they have to let the law apply because if they do not do it now somebody will take it up at a later stage when the party will not be able to do anything.’’
