Some aggrieved residents of Mamobi, a suburb of Ayawaso North municipality in Accra, who have been troubled by falling coconut fruits from tall trees that have destroyed their roofing, will soon heave a sigh of relief.
The Assembly has pledged to cut down the coconut trees after a report was made about by the residents.
In an interview with Joy News, the Senior Environmental Health Officer at Mamobi, Mariam Braimah acknowledged that the situation is worrisome and the Assembly will make sure the coconut trees are cut down to prevent any eventuality.
One of the residents who has been living with a hole in her roof said they have, for 10 years, complained about the risky state of the trees but the owners have turned deaf ears to them.
Madam Aishetu Seidu said she lost a relative who was hit by a falling coconut fruit. The family member, she said, suffered serious head injuries and could not recover from it.
According to her, she had arranged for someone to cut the trees, but she could not pay the GH¢400.00 bill that was charged.
The concerns were raised when the JoycleanGhana Campaign and officials of the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly stormed the Mamobi community to educate residents on environmental consciousness.
