The Central Bank is set to release the new GHC5 denomination which is to mark the 60th Anniversary of Ghana's independence from British rule in 1957.
The new note which would be in circulation from March 7 has some key distinctive security features that are aimed at protecting it from counterfeits.
They are also to make the note accessible and recognisable by persons who are visually impaired.
The note depicts the image of Ghanaian missionary and educationist, James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey credited for being one of the apostles of education in the then Gold Coast.

The main face of the new GHC5 note
He is widely acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to affirmative action in the country especially in his fight for women empowerment.
Mr Kwegyir Aggrey is cited for many noteworthy statements.
He had noted that “the surest way to keep people down is to educate the men and neglect the women."
But his statement that gender activists quote consistently is that, "If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation."

Old GHC5 note
He replaces the picture of the big six - a group of six men including first President Kwame Nkrumah - credited for the independence of Ghana.
He died on July 30, 1927.
Also, the reverse of the note has pictures of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah representing Ghana's new revenue earner - the oil - as well as cocoa.

The new note is expected to be in the hands of Ghanaians by the end of March, 2017.
