The Play and Learn Foundation (PAL) together with its donors have successfully raised funds to support 61 families La Bawaleshi and Okponglo in Accra.
A relief package of ¢500 was given to the families to help support their financial needs and subsequently start-up little enterprises to help with home upkeep while keeping safe.
This comes at the back of the imposed healthcare directives from the World Health Organization (WHO) on all countries around the globe to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The distribution of funds started on May 24, with 18 families through to the May 31, with 20 families benefiting.
The remaining 23 families received their relief packages on Sunday, June 7.
The coronavirus pandemic has had an adverse impact on the world's economy and Ghana's is no exception.
This has affected the businesses and livelihood of the general populace especially the underserved.

Government in its bid to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the economy has implemented various fiscal measures to provide relief packages for businesses and households.
The responsibility of fighting this Covid-19 while making sure citizens are also taken care of can not be left for the government alone.
The Foundation brings together boys and girls who have a passion for play, a drive to lead, and a desire to pursue academic and professional excellence.
By targeting underserved communities, the Foundation seeks to provide an opportunity where it is most needed.

Prior to the relaxation of imposed restrictions on the country, a majority of sponsored children and their families relied on an irregular source of income by selling items on the streets of Accra (hawking), roadside selling or helping well established individuals for daily income.
These income-earning activities were halted due to the lockdown imposed by government to help prevent the further spread of the virus.
Others who flouted the directive of government while risking their lives and that of their families did not get enough income due to no or low patronage.

During PAL's visit to these families, they (families) expressed their heartfelt gratitude and called for more donors to come to their aid.
This pandemic has not only affected nation developments, it has also exposed the fragile state of persons who live in underserved communities more than others due to their financial and health disparities.
Play and Learn Foundation has called on NGOs, donors and other individuals to collaborate and support these sections of the population to make it nearly impossible for the virus to stay longer.
