The People’s National Convention (PNC) has said it will go beyond the proposed naming and shaming and sanction its members who use intemperate language to foment trouble.Political parties signed on to the political code of conduct to promote peace ahead of the December 2012 elections.The parties agreed that anyone found to have breached the code should be named and shamed.The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), which is spearheading this initiative, is optimistic that this will ensure politicians to refrain from the use of intemperate language that could result in violence ahead of the polls.PNC Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan told Joy News in an interview that naming and shaming such offenders is not enough.“...the PNC will go the extra mile to sanction its members who try to disgrace or tarnish the image of the party by using offensive language,” he said.Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan suggested that individuals can sue politicians who use intemperate language to foment trouble aside the ‘name and shame’.He added that, individuals can take on political personalities who use intemperate language on the air waves to deter other politicians.According to the PNC Chairman, there are laws used in addressing every criminal act of politicians therefore victims of such act can seek legal redress.Political parties signed on to the political code of conduct to promote peace ahead of the December elections.
