The People’s National Party (PNP) has announced its decision to remain non-aligned in the upcoming 2024 general election, scheduled for Saturday, December 7.
According to the party, this position underscores its commitment to its core principles of prioritizing the welfare of the vulnerable above partisan affiliations.
In a statement issued on December 5, the PNP stated that it would not endorse any candidate but urged all Ghanaians, especially its members, to "prayerfully seek God’s direction" in choosing a leader.
The party believes divine guidance is essential to selecting a leader capable of addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
The PNP also called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure the elections are conducted transparently and fairly.
Stressing the EC's critical role as the custodian of the nation’s democratic process, the party highlighted the importance of maintaining public trust by guaranteeing a credible and peaceful election.
In an appeal to the media, the PNP encouraged responsible and balanced reporting to promote unity and educate the public.
The party noted that the media’s role is vital in fostering an informed and peaceful electoral process.
Furthermore, the PNP urged all Ghanaians to reject violence and embrace peace during this crucial period.
The party called for unity, stating, "Let us approach this election as one people united by a shared destiny. Regardless of the outcome, we must come together as a nation to build a better future for all."
By maintaining a neutral stance, the PNP reiterates its focus on safeguarding the nation's interest and encouraging a peaceful and democratic election.
However, the mother party from which the PNP was formed, the People's National Convention (PNC), whose candidate was disqualified from the race, has backed the NDC's John Mahama in Saturday's poll.
