Police in the Ashanti region have launched manhunt for four highway robbers believed to be of Fulani origin who shot a police corporal at Kasei near Ejura in the Ashanti region.
The 30-year-old Corporal Alexander Kyeremeh stationed at Bimbila in the Northern region was shot in the ribs for disobeying orders of the robbers to passengers to surrender all their possessions.
Though the late Corporal Kyeremeh had earlier obeyed the robbers and pulled out the money on him, he was later spotted by a fourth member of the gang who had laid ambush concealing some of the money in his panties, a situation which led to the robber shooting him at close-range in the ribs.
Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Yussif Mohammed Tanko told Nhyira FM police at Ejura responded swiftly but the robbers managed to escape before the police got there at about 2pm Friday.
Security on the Ejura-Atebubu road has been beefed up after the incident with intensified police patrols as the search for the killers of the police corporal continue.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said personnel from the Homicide Unit will be deployed to assist the Criminal Investigations Department as both uniformed and plain-clothed police take part in the investigations.
Meanwhile, the body of the late Corporal Kyeremeh has been deposited at the Asante Mampong Government Hospital morgue.
