The Upper West Regional Police Command has appealed to journalists in the region to rescind their decision to boycott events organised by the police promising prompt investigation into allegations of assault on one of them. The regional Ghana Journalists Association threatened news blackout against the police in the region for failing to investigate reports that some police personnel unjustifiably assaulted Mr James Donkor of Radio Progress in Wa last October at a beauty pageant.Mr Donkor allegedly received severe beatings from police who later arrested and detained him when he photographed a suspect tied to an electric pole by the police.Following complaints by the GJA, the police promised to investigate the matter but months after the incident nothing has been heard about the case necessitating the latest action by the association. The Regional Police Commander, ACP Alex Bede told Joy News the journalists should exercise patience for the matter to be resolved. He said the police are not interested in putting themselves in an antagonistic position with the GJA.Myjoyonline.com
