Some armed security personnel on Wednesday, November 27, invaded Accra-based TV station Metro, interrupting a live show in the process.
A staff member of the station, who confirmed the invasion to Myjoyonline, claimed that about ten officers were on the premises.
According to the staff member, when they questioned the officers about the reason for their presence, they told them that they were after someone.
In a video viewed by Myjoyonline.com, the Morning Host of Metro TV, Dr Randy Abbey, was seen questioning some of the officers about their actions.
The parties were seen exchanging words in an unfriendly manner.
Dr Randy Abbey also confirmed the incident during his Good Morning Ghana show after he was forced to take a break to speak to the officers.
According to him, some private security personnel at Metro TV sustained injuries while trying to prevent the security personnel from gaining access to the station's studios.
"Our private security has been trying to prevent them, and a couple of them are injured," he said.
He confirmed that the perpetrators were "armed policemen and some other individuals who were trying to forcibly enter the studio."
In a separate video, Dr Abbey disclosed that the armed policemen told him they had visited the premises to enforce a court order. He alleged that the officers had also attempted to seize his vehicle.
Exactly a year ago, some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) invaded the premises of the Accra-based Twi TV station, UTV, and obstructed its prime-time show on that day.
After calls for punishment for the culprits to serve as a deterrent, the Achimota Magistrates' Court convicted and fined 16 individuals. According to the court, each person was to pay an amount of GH¢2400.
The convicts were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and rioting. They pleaded guilty to the charges.
Recently, calls for stakeholders to ensure media safety, especially as the December elections approach, have intensified.
