The Ghana Police have vowed to crush any attempt by the NPP's Young Patriots to violate a temporary ban they imposed on public gatherings and demonstrations.A police spokesperson, DSP Freeman Tettey, says the youth of the opposition New Patriotic Party will be met with full force if they go ahead and stage a planned demonstration Wednesday.He denied claims by the Young Patriots that National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Stephen Atubiga in partnership with the National Commission for Civic education (NCCE) have been allowed by the police to embark on a peace march and that they were also entitled to hit the streets with the Justice March.The NPP youth wing in a press release this Tuesday had accused Police Service of discrimination and selectivity. They claimed the police had refused to approve notices for demonstration by the Alliance For Accountable Governance(AFAG), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA).The Young Patriots were, therefore, bent on organizing a protest with the “single purpose” of “revealing the contradiction and hypocrisy” of the Police Service.But DSP Tettey said their claims were baseless because the police did not give Mr Atubiga any permission to demonstrate - the same treatment it meted out to the aforementioned groups.He revealed that Stephen Atubiga withdrew his request after the Police explained to him that he could not go on any demonstration.Speaking on Joy News, a spokesperson for the Young Patriots responded that in view of this revelation by the Police, they were also rescinding their decision to demonstrate.
