The Ghana police service is demanding high performance from its officers. It follows the astronomical salary hikes for personnel of the service.
To ensure no officer gives excuses for low standards, the Inspector General has introduced a handbook containing basic operational rules.
All officers are required to take a copy with them everywhere they go.
It contains tips on effective policing including how to effect lawful arrests and the rights of suspects.
Superintendent Kwesi Ofori who is in charge of public affairs tells Joy News the IGP is determined to enforce high standards in the service.
“It will afford them the opportunity to refer to issues that bother them in the course of their duties regarding traffic accidents, scene of crime, how to use lethal force, controlling crowd during rioting situations,” he said.
It is a perfect handbook that will serve a good purpose,” he added.
He hoped the personnel will read the handbook in order to acquaint themselves with the details.
