Police say  some major roads in Accra will be blocked and traffic diverted ahead of an ECOWAS summit from Thursday 10 July to Saturday 12 July, 2014.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin told Joy News the Movenpick road to Airport Traffic Light on the Independence Avenue will be closed.

Traffic from the Liberia road approaching the National Theatre and the AU Circle road will be diverted and one side closed to motorists.

Chairman of ECOWAS, President John Dramani Mahama, will be hostingthe 15 leaders of the sub-region at a two-day summit in Accra.

The mid-year Summit of ECOWAS will consider a report on the Community’s main activities and projects over the first half of this year to be presented by the ECOWAS Commission President, Mr. Kadre Desire Ouedraogo.

The leaders are also expected to discuss a recommendation for the introduction of biometric ID cards for all ECOWAS citizens and the abolition of residence permit requirements for all citizens within Member States.

The current Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, will also engage the attention and concern of the leaders attending this Summit.
