Ahead of the football match between Ghana and Sudan this Sunday September 6, 2009, some roads in the capital will be closed. This move by the Ghana Police Service is to minimize inconvenience to sport fans, invited guests and the general public. From 8:30 am on the scheduled date, some specific roads will be closed until after the match. The road from the AU Circle traffic light, close to the Osu cemetery, to Starlet 95 at the Ministries traffic intersection will be closed. Motorists from AU Circle towards the Castle road moving from the Osu cemetery traffic intersection will be diverted onto the 2nd and 3rd Avenue roads, take a detour through the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and join the Abdul Nassar Road. Motorists from that direction are advised to use the 28th February road towards Independence Square. Motorists on the Liberation road from Akuafo Circle (37 roundabout) are to join the Liberation road at National Theatre through to 28th February road onto the Independence Square. Only motorists with accredited stickers will be allowed to pass through police cordoned areas to the stadium car park. The VIP car park at the stadium can only be used by persons with special invites. The Tennis Court car park is reserved for security service vehicles and the Independence Square for big buses and small cars. The police warn owners of vehicles parked at unauthorized place would be fined.
