Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister on Friday observed that the political climate in the Region was more favourable than in the past for its smooth socio-economic development.
He said “the ‘political coordinates’ in the Region pointed in the same direction where all the political players would be working towards the implementation of the same manifesto.”
Addressing a meeting with media practitioners in Ho, Mr Amenowode said unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration when 21 out of 22 Members of Parliament were in opposition creating problems of co-operation with Municipal and District Chief Executives, now both legislators and local government heads belonged to the same political party.
He noted that even Mr Joseph Nayan, the only opposition Member of Parliament in the Region had demonstrated his commitment to the collective interest of the Region.
Mr Amenowode said his administration was looking forward to the media to augment efforts to develop the Region without compromising ethics, and pledged an open door administration to the media.
He noted that the Region abounds in many tourist potentials and urged the media to market such sites to attract tourists.
Mr Amenowode described security situation in the Region as good and optimistic that models of peace building applied in Nkonya and Alavanyo would the applied in the now “dormant” Tsito-Peki conflict.
However, he expressed concern about the increase in fuel smuggling to Togo, and said a committee had been established to study and strategise to curb it.Source: GNA
