Governance think tank, Center for Democratic Development says the mountain of judgment debts threatening the economy is an indication of weaknesses in the management of the public financial system.
Governance and Legal Officer Kojo Asante told Joy News the current revelations are an embarrassment to the country and justifies the calls for a presidential commission to probe the huge payments.
“There still needs to be done a thorough job in looking at our whole public financial management systems particularly to do with how we handle judgment debt and pointing also to the functioning of the Attorney-General’s office,” he added.
Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party Dr. Abu Sakara is also backing calls for a presidential commission to be setup to investigate the judgment debt issue.
Dr. Sakara said the issue has eroded confidence in the country’s body politics and raised suspicion about those put in charge to secure the public purse.
