The Potter's Village, a Christian non-profit organisation based in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, has appealed for support to complete its girls' dormitory and centre for battered women.

The facility is expected to provide shelter for girls in the organisation's care and women who have experienced various forms of abuse. It will also provide protection and access to essential support services.

According to the organisation, the facility is intended to restore dignity, promote emotional recovery and create opportunities for renewed hope and empowerment for vulnerable girls and women.

About The Potter's Village

The Potter's Village was established in May 2000 by the late Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu. The organisation is registered and incorporated under the laws of Ghana as a non-profit entity and is recognised by the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The organisation provides care and support for orphaned and vulnerable children, abused women, victims of domestic violence, homeless people, vulnerable families and single mothers.

Its work focuses on preventing family separation through community support. However, when a child's biological family environment becomes unsafe, the organisation provides protective shelter and care in a safe and nurturing environment.

Supporting education and families

The Potter's Village also operates a community school that provides education for children living in its residential facility, vulnerable children in the community and children of single mothers facing socio-economic challenges.

The school forms part of the organisation's broader effort to support vulnerable children, empower women and strengthen families.

The unfinished facility

The girls' dormitory and centre for battered women remains incomplete. When completed, the facility will provide accommodation and protection for vulnerable girls and women while giving them access to support services designed to aid their recovery and empowerment.

The organisation is therefore appealing to members of the public, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other well-wishers to support the completion of the project.
