President John Mahama has arrived in Malabo, Equitorial Guinea, for a meeting of Heads of State of countries along the Gulf of Guinea.He left for that country on Thursday for the meeting convened by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. It is expected to focus on maritime security along the Gulf of Guinea.A statement from Flagstaff House said the President got there on Thursday night. He was welcomed at the airport by the President of Equitorial Guinea, and he is expected to make some strong interventions at the summit, it added.Mr Mahama has in recent times been discussing how to strengthen the maritime borders with his counterparts in Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Nigeria.“Ghana has over the last three years, upgraded the equipment stock of the Ghana Navy and recently established a Police Marine Unit with a view to checking piracy and also protect the country's oil installations and maritime boundaries,” the statement said.President Mahama should return on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
