The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as arrogant actions of President John Mahama's convoy during a recent visit to the region.
According to Samuel Pyne, the President's convoy blared the popular song 'Yentie Obia' on loud speakers to cast insinuation at critics of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led governement -- an action he said was offensive to the chiefs and people of the region.
'Yentie Obia' one of the songs on celebrated highlife musician, Daddy Lumba's latest album, is Twi for 'We won't listen to anyone'.
"This arrogant posture, apart from treating the region including the chiefs and traditional rulers that he the President met at Menhyia on Saturday [May 3, 2014] with contempt..was also a clear disregard to the directives of Menhyia [palace of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II]", said Mr Pyne at a press conference.
According to him, Menhyia had placed a ban on noise making as part of activities to mark 15 years of enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, adding that a blatant breach of that ban by the President's convoy was unfortunate.
"The President himself should apologise to the chiefs and people of the region now", the NPP man stressed.
