President John Mills has thrown his weight behind calls for investigations into the untimely death of wife of the Deputy Energy Minister Innusa Fuseini at the Police Hospital on Wednesday.
According to the President, it is only when this is done that such incidents would be prevented in the future.
“Honorable you know God proposes and Man disposes…but I am happy that the postmortem is being done. We have to find out what went wrong and correct future mistakes of this nature.”
The President made the comments when he joined family members and sympathizers of the Fuseini family to pay their last respect to his wife who lost her life during child birth.
According to DSP Kwesi Ofori, the Police have already started conducting investigations into the incident to ascertain that actual cause of the death.
Briefing the President on circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, Member of Parliament for Tamale North Abukari Sumani indicated that the family was forced to call for investigations into the sad incident because they suspected negligence on the part of the personnel at the hospital.
According to him, they believe strongly that Mrs Fuseini could have been saved if medics at the police hospital had acted expediently after the pregnant woman had on her volition reported to the hospital.
He noted that in the meantime, a Histologist at the 37 Military Hospital was conducting further investigations, based on which the postmortem results would be released to the family.
“We all wanted a postmortem to be done because we all had a common feeling that there was negligence on somebody’s part and we thought that we ought to get to the bottom of it…because for nine months you took care of her and you never told her that there was something wrong with her or the baby…they have done the autopsy and we are awaiting the results”
