President John Mahama has said that his government will review the Public Procurement Act to favor local industries in the country should Ghanaians renew his mandate and elect enough MPs from his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Tuesday, President Mahama explained that this act would require government to buy goods from Ghanaian producers rather than foreign firms whenever possible.
He told the students that, "this is just one of the several packages" that his government will pursue to ensure the growth of local industries and job creation, which he called his "number one focus."
President Mahama also promised to ensure that the local content bill, which is currently being drafted, will apply to all sectors, not strictly the oil and gas industry, a change that he says will stimulate growth and enable employers to grow their businesses and hire more workers.
Mahama is expected to end his campaign tour of the Ashanti region Wednesday, when he is expected to begin a Central Regional campaign tour later.
