A former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa is strongly advocating for the Ministry of Health to investigate the processes leading to the sudden death of president Evan Atta Mills.This comes after a deputy chief of staff under the Mills administration, Alex Segbefia backed calls for a national debate to clearly define parameters for dealing with the health of sitting Presidents. He made this call on Tuesday on the Super Morning Show with Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah.Opening up the debate wider, Professor Akosa insists that one year after the national tragedy, it is time to investigate the processes leading to his death.On Joy FM's Top Story, on Wednesday, the professor of pathology advised that pertinent questions that should now concern Ghanaians are what happened at the Castle, who was there at the time of his death, how long it took for an ambulance to get to the fatally ill president.He said it is also important knowing the state of preparedness of the 37 Military Hospital when the unusual patient arrived on that fateful day.He defined that this investigation does not include a 'hue and cry' into what killed the president. That is unnecessary because an autopsy report has clearly revealed that the president died of natural causes, he said.Asked who should begin this investigation, the professor pointed out that the Ministry of Health should conduct this investigations.He explained this is because the ministry is in charge of the ambulance service and the handling of emergency situations. He said this investigation can help design a system to deal with unfortunate occurrences such as the sudden passing of president Mills.He said this is the practice in countries such as the White House in America and the No.10 Downing Street in the U.K where there is a fully resourced medical corps that is at post 24 hours.President Mills died on 24th July 2012 after battling with cancer.
