Mrs Dianah Appiah, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education has said good leadership and management qualities were crucial for improved academic output in schools.
She said healthy inter-personal relationship and enhanced transparency in financial management also promote quality teaching and learning.
Mrs Appiah was speaking at a meeting of the Atwima-Nwabiagya Basic School Heads Association at Abuakwa on Wednesday.
The meeting was aimed at interacting with the management of the District Education Directorate and also discuss some pertinent issues that militate against effective and efficient management of schools, transparency and promotion of school-community relationship.
Mrs Appiah attributed the low performance of some public schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to ineffective supervision.
Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development, advised the heads to institute strict internal monitoring mechanism to enhance delivery.
Mr Kwaku Addai Opoku, chairman of the association, appealed to the members to portray good management skills and competency not only to improve the academic output of their schools but also enforce discipline and moral values in the pupils.
