Former President John Mahama has condemned the government for what he describes as propaganda after his meeting with foreign diplomats over the by-election violence.
“No amount of government-sponsored propaganda and distraction will take away the stigma of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, as the darkest day in the history of Ghana’s 4th Republican democracy,” the former President wrote on his Facebook wall Monday.
Mr Mahama is being pummeled by the government and a section of the public for lowering the bar of statesmanship after he met with members of the diplomatic corps and showed them videos and visuals of the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31.
Top government functionaries have condemned the former President’s action, calling it an attempt to “paint Ghana black.”
On Sunday, Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, also said Mahama peddled falsehood at the meeting with the diplomats.
But Mr Mahama says available evidence vindicates him.
“Thanks to videos filmed by television stations and other individuals, the true identity of these hoodlums, identified as members of the Invincible and Delta Forces of the NPP have been revealed,” he added.
