Child models Puriel Sarpong and Alvin Amfo Boakye were awarded as the 'Overall Female Model of the Year' and 'Overall Male Model of the Year' at the fourth edition of the annual Ghana Models Awards Juniors, an event that celebrates talents and potentials, on Saturday at Mikkaddo conference center in Accra. In all, 17 awards were presented.
The Founder and Executive Director of the Ghana Models Awards, Jerry Wonder Sampson, stated that the Ghana Models Awards Juniors was far from just a talent show but, rather focused on the potentials of the nominees.
Speaking on the purpose of the Ghana Models Awards Juniors, the Founder Jerry Wonder Sampson said that the focus of the scheme was different from the average talent show. “The Ghana Models Awards scheme in general is not a talent show. It is also not a competition, and that’s why we don’t open the voting process to the public.
Also, just like with the senior edition, talent is not our main point in the criteria. We look mainly at the potential of the child to become great and eventually an icon because, we are celebrating our ‘possible future’ now in order to encourage both the children and their parents to strive and achieve that goal of becoming an icon in future…”, he explained.
Puriel Sarpong, a child fashion model from the Exopa Model Agency with experience in Runway modelling, expressed her joy when she received her award on stage. "I would like to thank the Almighty God, and secondly, I would like to thank all of you who came here to support me," she said.
According to the management of the scheme, this year, only the winners were invited to celebrate their victory with their families.
