Work on a new maternity block for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has been temporarily held up by persistent rains.
Contractors are, however, confident of meeting the four-month deadline for completion and handling over of the facility for use.
The project was initiated by First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and supported by the Multimedia Group.
It is expected to ease congestion at the KATH Mother and Baby Unit.
The start of the expansionary project at the Kumasi hospital follows a Joy News special documentary, ‘Next to Die’ which highlighted the plight of mothers and babies at the facility.
Lack of space and critical equipment have led to needless deaths.
Luv FM’s Kwesi Debrah, who have visited the project site, reports that although there have been delays in the preparatory work, contractors are likely to meet the four-month deadline.
He said his sources tell him the contractors factored the setbacks that the rains would bring in setting the timeline for the completion of the project.
The total cost of the project is estimated at 8. 1 million Ghana cedis.
