Armed men said to be on board a Kia Pride taxi cab with registration number ER 3531 X are reported to have shot and killed an elderly resident of Community 9, Tema, shortly before 6am on Tuesday.
Neighbours of Mr. Nii Kwartei Quartey, an ex-employee of the Public Works Department, was said to be getting ready for his bath when a knock on their gate attracted a young girl in the house.
She responded to the call and on opening the door, met some men in the taxi who asked to see Mr. Quartey, described by neighbours as a very respected member of the society.
Mr. Quartey, with only a towel around his loins, followed up on the call, and just as he stormed the gate, he was shot dead with a single shot of the gun in what the neighbours say is a contract killing.
He was alleged to be involved in a land dispute, and the killers just sped off after the early morning murder.
Just about 7:15 another driver called into Joy FM's Super Morning Show to report the car abandoned on the Beach Road at Tema Community 3.
The latest unexplained death, comes in the wake of raging arguments over what has now been termed ‘contract killings’ in the country, following the shooting to death of the Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Commercial Bank, Rokko Frimpong in cold blood.
