Global electronic giants Samsung, official sponsor of CAN 2013 in South Africa has launched its fan zone activation programme ahead of the tourney which is scheduled to kick off come Saturday January 19 2013 at the iconic Soccer City in Soweto.
The short but colourful ceremony took place at the premises of the Silver Bird Lounge at the Accra Mall in Accra.
The fan Zone would see the electronic giants putting up screens at vantage points in Accra and Kumasi for the football crazy fans to follow the progress of their teams at the biennial competition.
Head of Business, Ghana, of the electronics Company Vishwas Saxena opined that Samsung was proud to once again partner Africa’s biggest football event.
“Samsung is proud to partner this massive African showpiece event and realizes the passion that football brings to the doorsteps of fans the world over. Samsung thus sees this as an ideal way of engaging the fans while encouraging participation in the festivities. At Samsung, we hope it elevates the atmosphere surrounding the tournament.”
Marketing Manager in charge of consumer Electronics, Richard Nunekpeku added that Samsung as a brand believes in Africa and developing products for African consumers and also believe that football is a massive platform to demonstrate this passion.
Four local consumers also stand the opportunity of winning tickets to see Chelsea games live at the Stamford Bridge after the tournament in South Africa. The Company also intends to bring in coaches from the English Giants to train local kids to harness their football talents.
Ghana will take on two-time champions, DR Congo come Sunday 20th January at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth before taking on Mali and Niger respectively.
