The District Chief Executive for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Alhaji Mumuni Isaac Dramani has called on Ghanaians to eschew selfish interest and seek the broader national interest.
He stated that commitment to the nation coupled with unity is the bedrock to building a better and prosperous Ghana.
He reminded Ghanaians that they owe it a duty to contribute towards the development of the communities and institutions and they shall be remembered.
Alhaji Dramaani made the speech at the 57th Independence anniversary celebration held at Sawla D/A Junior High School in the Northern Region.
Thirty four first cycle institutions, four second cycle institutions and some voluntary organisations took part in the march past in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.
He stated that 57 years in the life of a nation is no mean achievement and is worth celebrating. However, he conceded that it will not be out place to reflect on the past, so as to draw lessons that will help make informed decisions for the future.
He admitted Ghana's 57 years of independence have come with some challenges and cited inadequate health care delivery, low quality education, poor road network and indiscipline.
Alhaji Dramaani said the government, knowing the challenges that the people in the country especially the district are grappling with, has introduced some interventions which the district will benefit from.
He said work is currently on-going for the construction of an administration block, Information Communication Technology Centre and a semi-detached teacher’s bungalow at Sawla Senior High School.
He used the occasion to thank Tuna Senior High school, Kulmasah JHS, Sawla Girls model and Nyoli D/A JHS for their impressive performances during the 2013 West Africa schools certificate examination and basic education certificate examination respectively and urged them to do more.
Buoyed by the performance of the aforementioned schools, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive presented ten motorbikes to the district directorate of education to be given to circuit supervisors to help in their monitoring and supervisory roles.
