The Shea nut factory in Buipe in the Northern Region, PBC Shea Limited is expected to resume operations by the end of the year.
The company has been dormant for almost a year due to operational challenges but engineers are now finalising the re-installation of a new plant expected to operate at twice the initial capacity when production starts.
This is expected to significantly impact the local economy.
Chief Executive of PBC Shea Limited, majority shareholder of PBC Shea Limited, Maxwell Attakrah said there were problems with the plant with one part not functioning. He said this made them produce at a reduced capacity.
"It became necessary to bring in a new plant and we felt that it would be worth it to rather increase the capacity from 100 to 200 per day," he said.
He said they have over 80 workers and a number of other people who are connected to operations at the company adding their presence in the market increased the price of the shea nut significantly.
