The Eastern Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has reasons to suspect that some supervisors of the ongoing voters’ registration exercise are deliberately sabotaging NDC in their strongholds. Julius Debrah said the EC officials are limiting materials needed for the process in pro-NDC electoral areas in order to favour the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He said the NDC is vigilant on the ground and would not allow such actions to go unattended. Julius Debrah alleged that some supervisors are using the 2004 elections results to apportion limited quantities of registration materials to some perceived NDC strongholds, while they supply adequate materials to most of the perceived NPP strongholds. He cited an example in Kukurantumi, a perceived NPP stronghold, where there has not been report of shortage of materials since the start of the exercise, unlike what is prevailing at Osiem, where most of the people in an area called Savior, a perceived NDC stronghold are facing shortages with some electoral materials. Julius Debrah is therefore asking the EC to provide adequate materials to those areas to enable all eligible Ghanaians to register for the December polls without disenfranchising any citizen.
